Thirty extras. An army on screen.

Multiply the crowd you shot and build the rest of the world around it: battlefields, castles, stadiums, cities.

Finished shot: the same extras in front of an army of thousands filling the hillside and valley, a stone fortress on the far ridge.
Plate: about twenty-five extras in wool tunics with spears and shields wait on a green hillside, a camera crane and a small green screen behind them.
As shot Finished

What it does

AI crowd & scale, handed back as layers.

Crowd and scale work makes a shoot look bigger than it was: twenty-five extras on a hillside become an army in the valley, a half-full stand becomes a stadium, a gate becomes a fortress. The people you shot stay in the foreground as shot; everything behind them is filled in to match their costume, light and action.

The jobs

  • Crowd multiplication
  • Battlefields
  • Castles and cities
  • Stadiums and arenas
  • Set extension

What you mark

Mark the area to fill and describe the crowd: density, action, how far it goes. The costumes and light are taken from the extras you shot.

What you get back

  • Comp
  • Crowd layer
  • Extension layer
  • Matte

Shots it’s for

Where crowd & scale earns its keep.

  1. 01

    Armies

Lines, camps and columns across a field or a valley.

  2. 02

    Stands and streets

Stadiums, arenas, concert crowds, busy streets.

  3. 03

    Castles and cities

Walls, towers and skylines beyond the built set.

  4. 04

    Scale

A wider valley, a longer column, a deeper hall.

Questions

About crowd & scale.

Do the extras in the foreground change?

No. The people you shot keep their original pixels; the crowd is added around and behind them, with a separate layer and matte so you can adjust it.

Does it copy the same person again and again?

No. A believable crowd needs variety; nolanlabs varies build, pose and action and never tiles the same figure close to camera.
